We walk through the forest to Ambresbury Banks. This is the remains of an Iron Age hill fort. According to legend, it is the site of the last stand by Boudica against the Romans in the year 61 although there is no evidence to support this. Finds at the site have included shards of red, grey and black pottery, flints and flint arrow heads, and lumps of baked clay. These suggest a construction date of around 700 BC and occupation until 42 AD.
We walk through the Forest to Copped Hall. This walk will tie in with one of the Copped Halls open days. Further details to follow in due course.
We walk accross farmland to the church at Theydon Garnon who are holding a summer fete that day. Normally, we aim to arrive early enough for the Hog Roast, but sadly due to renovations at the church there will be no Hog roast this year. The church has a fascinating history stretching back some 700 years and is well worth a visit. Some notable people from history are buried here.
We take a walk through the Epping Forest Buffer lands on the Theydon Bois section of the trail.
This is our most popular walk where we go through the forest into the deer sanctuary. The deer sanctuary was established in 1959 . The sanctuary houses a population of around 100 - 140 deer within 120 acres of land.
* The walks run in conjunction with the City of London and therefore a small charge will apply. Due to high numbers, it is a restricted event by ticket only. Full details on how to book will be published here in due course.
